This DVD is a really good idea. In essence in shows exactly what the Wild Trout Trust do – look at the habitat of the wild trout and advise and help landowners or fishing clubs on ways of improving the surroundings for Mr Trutta to flourish. This in turn also has a positive impact on the quality of the fishing and as a result leaves a fishing club and its members with a good understanding of how to continue to maintain their water for the good of all.
In Rivers: Working for Wild Trout angling author and WTT vice president Jon Beer meets up with Wild Trout Trust Conservation Officers Andy Thomas, Tim Jacklin and Paul Gaskell visiting three differing trout streams to look at ways the Trust has helped in improving the habitat for the trout and also shows ways that they go about doing it.
Showing three differing streams ensures that there is something in the contents that will be of interest to just about everyone involved with rivers along with some great ideas that could easily be implemented. The three rivers featured are: the freestone stream the Manifold in Derbyshire, the Meon, a chalk stream in Hampshire and the Don, an urban stream in Yorkshire.
I have to say I really enjoyed watching it and learnt some interesting things too. To me, where this DVD would be of great value is if a fishing club were to buy a copy and either make it available to members or have a club night where members could watch it together and see if some of the ideas might be of benefit to their club.
With fly fishing often seen as a solitary pastime, getting a group of club members together is often worthwhile and for the cost of £10 for the DVD is certainly worth it.
