As fishing guides and instructors we get to try lots of different gear on a day to day basis, some good and some not so. Below is some of this 'good stuff' we put our hands in our pockets for and use on a regular basis. If you have some 'good stuff' you'd like to share please let us know and we'll put it in future issues.
Pete Likes: Natures Spirit Elk Hair
There are two choices, either early season cow elk that is between 3/4 to 1 inch long or standard cow elk that is 1 1/2 inches long. Both come in natural or bleached. I bought all of them and found the early season elk perfect for small flies in sizes 16 and downwards and the longer hair has limitless possibilities. The best elk hair I have used and a pleasure to tie with.

Jim Likes: Anchor Shot
An eclectic mix of weights, colours and shapes to suit any condition you're likely to encounter as a nymph angler.
Wether you have a preference for adding bulk or in a dust type format, their soft nature makes application easy(ish) holding well to any leader set up without damaging its integrity.
Jim (Personally) Likes: Guru N-Gauge
I used this extensively last season as tippet for both dry fly and nymph fishing. Spool after spool I've been impressed with its true diameter and breaking strain as prescribed across all the line weights.
I've found knot security and strength excellent across those I use, 'Grinner', 'Blood' & 'No Name' in particular.
Memory free, clear and slightly stiffer than STROFT which also remains a particular favourite, I find it versatile for the waters I fish.
