We're big fans of the Wild Trout Trust and the work that they do. Each year they hold an auction of many fishing related items including the opportunity to fish on stretches of water you might not always get a chance to fish. Denise Ashton from the Wild Trout Trust tells us some more.
Wild Trout Trust Auction March 5-14
235 lots starting at £20
The Wild Trout Trust auction is a really great way of exploring new areas for fishing, buying books, art and tackle and contributing to a very worthwhile cause – the protection of our wild trout and their habitat. The funds raised in the auction are used to deliver practical advice and habitat improvement projects with fishing clubs and landowners. The auction will take place on eBay and by post from March 5-14.
This year we have made it even easier to find the perfect fishing day, book or art work. The new WTT website has an illustrated online catalogue and a map of the fishing lots and from March 4 there will be a live link to the lot on eBay. If your prefer to do your browsing the old fashioned way, order a printed catalogue and submit a postal bid and we will bid on eBay on your behalf. Everything you need to know starts here: http://www.wildtrout.org/content/auction-2013
There is a huge range of fishing on offer, from exclusive chalk streams to little known trout rivers in Kent and Suffolk, big Irish Loughs to mountain lakes in Wales, tenkara fishing to trawling for ferox and pike. As well as raising vital funds, we see the auction as a fantastic gateway to find new waters, new friends and new clubs or syndicates. Some of the lots are accompanied by guides (including Pete Tyjas!), or writers such as Jon Beer, Theo Pike and Brian Clarke.
As well as UK fishing, there are holidays in the Caribbean, Chile, Argentina and France, an exquisite Rawson and Perrin cane rod and some unusual collectable items. Check out the ‘art, books, tackle and flies’ list as well as the fishing.
