Mat Mchugh shares details of a few of his favourite fishing photographers along with some of his own stunning pictures
With the advent of the digital camera age it seems that the camera is now an essential piece of fishing kit. It is rare for an angler to venture to the river without one these days and the ease of use means that captures, scenes and wildlife are snapped and shared readily with fellow anglers, family and friends.
Photography and and fly fishing are well suited bed fellows. Our fly fishing adventures take us to remarkable environments and put us in contact with some beautiful fish and wildlife. This tends to result in some stunning photography. Since the digital revolution there has been an explosion of fly fishing photography talent. When I have a spare moment I spend my time trawling the web and viewing some of the great photographers that capture the moments we all experience when on the river, lake or ocean. Some of my favourite and most inspirational UK photographers are below:
One of the best collection of fly fishing photographers can be found on the midcurrent website:
And I am sure there are many more people out there like myself who enjoy the photography aspect as much as the catching of fish. I encourage anyone who has an interest in photography but has not yet tried to give it a go. The more people producing beautiful images of our sport the better for helping to preserve it and the environemnts we fish in.
Here are some of my favourite images from the UK, Iceland, New Zealand, New Caledonia and Tahiti.
