Pete Tyjas takes a look at the latest set of fly tying DVDs from Fish On Productions .
The Fish On boys have been busy at work again, this time putting together two DVDs of their favourite fly patterns. One of them for dry flies and the other for nymphs.
I have said before that one of the things I like is the honesty of their work. What I mean about this is that there is no clever editing if the thread gets caught around the hook it is all there to see. They are the small little things that we all go through when tying and although there are hardly any errors - they are all excellent tyers - it makes it realistic to me and easier to relate to.
I didn’t think I’d be able to sit through an entire DVD in one sitting but with all of the team tying, they each bring their own little slant to their section and the way they present making the hour or so easy viewing.
The flies tied are a mix of traditional patterns with a twist and flies the guys use day in and day out on the river along with some left field stuff including JP's Tenkara pattern in the nymph DVD. It is interesting to hear the thought process behind the patterns that elevated them from run of the mill flies to “must haves”.
Each DVD also comes with a card insert with recipe details for each fly and a short description too.
It is the sort of DVD that you can watch all the way through as I did and then dip in and out of when you fancy tying one.
As with the other DVDs and their range of tying products the quality is high, interesting and with practical flies that catch fish rather than fancy patterns that are either too complicated to tie or you’d be too afraid to use in case you lost one in a tree.
Deano, JP, JT and Dean nice work. The bar is raised once again.
The DVDs are available from Fish On Productions priced at £15 each
