Welcome to Issue 52

Each year I start a new season resolution. There have been many things. Sometimes I stick to them, sometimes I don’t. The constant theme over the years has always been to try and fish a little bit more. I am trying really hard to stick to it but when the chance of some guiding work comes in I find it hard to say no.

This year, I have promised myself that I will travel light and so far I’ve stuck to it and really enjoyed it. There was a time a few years back when I used to guide and fish with just a fly box and a lanyard with the basics attached. I’ve gone back to this and it has worked really well. It is more comfortable and the fly box has flies that will cover just about every situation I will encounter on the river. Instead of having a dozen of each pattern I have three or so and at the end of the day if I have lost a few I just top them up again.

This is in stark contrast to the pack I usually carry that weighs a ton and I don’t need half of its contents either.

So far, I can’t recall a situation where I have thought  “damn, I wish I had…”. I will report back how it goes.

It looks like I will be sticking with this and so now I’ll work a little on the more fishing bit!

Enjoy this latest issue.

Good fishing!
