Pete Tyjas sits down and takes a look at Freshwater Fishes of Britain by Jack Perks
Jack Perks takes us into the fishes world as he looks at the fish that inhabit our water ways.
Picking up the book and flicking through the 200 odd pages I am immediately drawn to the stunning photography.
Each fish is described, along with sizing, how to distinguish them and information about their habitat too. It is quite clear how passionate Jack is about fish and as a fisherman he understands the importance of capturing each species in their natural habitat rather than photographs of them away from it.
For us fly anglers there are some beautiful shots of trout, salmon and grayling along with rainbows, brookies and arctic char too.
The work undertaken to ensure each fish had a set of suitable set of photographs must have been immense but the finished book is a wonderful testament to all of this effort and as a result is a pleasure to read and enjoy again and again.
I still smile when I keep looking at the photo of Jack photographing a pike just a few feet away.
Any fisherman will enjoy this book.
