The London Fly Fishing Fair returns in early 2018. Find out what will be happening
When people who aren’t familiar with fly fishing first hear of the sport they may imagine it to be a passive activity, possibly spent on tranquil river-banks with gentle currents and idyllic surroundings. Whilst the UK certainly offers a host of gin-clear chalk streams and moss covered winding waterways, these locations are by no means a conclusive selection of the destinations fly fishing can lead you.

For the keen fly fisher, any stretch of water poses a potential and offers an opportunity. Whether it be on the glass-still loch, the overcast estuary or the suitably filled urban fishery, the UK boasts a horde of fishing destinations suitable for those of any experience and expertise. Just look at the likes of Thornwood Springs Trout Fishery, London and Essex’s premiere fly-fishing venue which caters for all levels of angler – right from the total novice all the way to the seasoned big fish stalker. Locations like this are easily accessible for those who live in urban areas and provide the perfect opportunity for fishers to tune back into nature whilst enjoying their favourite exciting pastime. With destinations such as this all over the UK, we are looking forward to learning more about them at next year’s London Fly Fishing Fair.
Coming to the Business Design Centre, Islington on the 23rd-24th March 2018, The London Fly Fishing Fair will be bringing with it a variety of exhibitors. These will include many of our favourite British brands, such as Orvis UK and Fin and Game, as well as exceptional international experts, all of which will be aiming to share something new about this ace sport. At the fair, visitors will be able to learn more about the incredible travel lodges and dazzling locations available for exploration through companies such as Frontiers, Nervous Waters, FishPal and Fly Odyssey. With stands also from the Norwegian Fly Fishers Club, Lax-A Angling Club and the Fly Fisher Travellers Club, there will be ample opportunity to hear more about the brilliant societies fishers can immerse themselves in from all over the globe.
In a recent explanation of why he was inspired to start the fair, co-founder Fergus Kelly relayed how after guiding in Ibera marshlands at Nervous Waters Pira Lodge, he came into contact with one of the most amazing tropical ecosystems that he had ever seen: ‘It was full of wildlife such as the capybara, caiman and a plethora of different bird species.’ For Fergus, fly fishing is about the interaction that one can enjoy with nature through the art of the sport. He says, ‘It has given me a reason to visit so many different countries and I’m thankful that because of this I’ve had a chance to experience new cultures and people. I believe that our fair will allow us to bring this community of fly fishers from all over the globe to one central location in the middle of London.’

Whether you’re a seasoned traveller itching to place your finger on your next fishing destination or simply a keen enthusiast hopeful to explore new UK destinations during a weekend away from the city (or even maybe within the city,) this fair will tell you all you need to know about where you want to go!
With an aim of bringing all of the best equipment and experience to our great capital and with the hope of encouraging more people to get into the sport – especially the younger generation and people who so far may not have had the opportunity, this fair is where you will be guaranteed to learn something new about fishing and the brilliant places it can take you!
