We're thrilled to have guest reviewer 10 year old James Penwright who has spent time on the water with the Vision ONKI
Over the last few months I have been privileged enough to try out the superb Vision ONKI. I have really enjoyed using the Vision Onki so far, and have been busy putting it to the test since July. I first used the rod at my local fishery, in North Wales (Tan-y-Mynydd) and haven't stopped catching on it since.
I simply love it!
I use a 6 weight floating line and a light weight reel with the Onki, this not only makes my equipment easy for me to use but I am able to adapt it easily to different fishing situations. The Onki is easy to handle whether lake fishing from the bank or fly fishing in my local rivers of the Elwy and the Clwyd.
It loads well and lets me cast good distances and with very little effort. I can really feel the rod bend and how flexible it is each time I cast. It is light and simply handles brilliantly every time. I also love the colour—the natural green shade is good camouflage, especially on the river bank.
The rod had its first major away trip to Glen of Rothes, Aberdeenshire in August, where I caught some cracking rainbows during the week on caddis dries and a green buzzer. On a take, the rod bent outstandingly and made landing larger fish an easy task!
Perhaps my best catch with the Onki so far was during a quick stop off after school when I landed this beautifully marked tiger trout on a parachute, with one single cast!
My overall verdict of the Vision ONKI ?
- I am totally hooked!
