Welcome to Issue 75

I was hoping to write a piece for this month's edition about the first day of the salmon season that I usually spend with my wife Emma. Like everyone else though we have been suffereing with the weather conditions and we had to give it a miss.

I'm hoping it won't be too long before I'm able to fish again but I'll wait if I have to.

The enforced lay-off has given me the chance to catch up with friends across the country to talk about fishing and also right now a hot topic has been the environment and conservation.

I had the privilege of fishing a stunning beat of the Test with some good friends recently and got to meet up with Howard Taylor. You'll be able to read more about what we talked about in the first article of this edition but I salute the work he and others are doing to fight the proposed water abstraction of the Rivers Test, Itchen and Candover.

To be honest, I've had enough of this, it has made me wonder what, as anglers, we need to do to make our voices louder when it comes to issues like these?

Has the time come when we need to be more vocal and visual on issues we feel impact the waterways that  we care about so much?

Speaking to Howard the other day has made me feel that I want to do a lot more to help on issues like this and speak more loudly on them.

I hope you enjoy this edition and thanks to Howard Colmer for the cover shot.

Good fishing
