Pete Tyjas goes in search of day time sea trout
It's funny watching yourself on film. I remember the day a year or so ago but seeing it through someone else's eyes or in this case, lens, allows you to watch yourself fishing and gives you a chance to see what you were doing and how you were doing it.
We'd had a touch of rain, the river had coloured up but was clearing fast. I stupidly said to Ian May that I thought I might be able to catch a sea trout during the day.
I realised what I'd said when the words came out of my mouth but thought "what the hell, let's give it a good go"
I worked the water hard trying different approaches and angles of attack. I like to fish for a fish that you're supposed to fish for at night under the cover of darkness but I enjoy the sense of achievement when you do get lucky.
Towards the end of the day I'd had a few knocks but nothing had happened and I'd joked to Ian that at least we could call his film "A nice day out" as we started to walk back towards my truck.
There was one last pool I wanted to try though and I was lucky enough to catch a small sea trout on just about the last cast of the day.
I'm sure there is some of lesson there about never giving up and on reflection it is probably right but most of all I hope you enjoy the film and my home water - The Taw.
Huge thanks to Ian May for heading over to Devon and hanging out on the river.
